The
New Orleans Quintet is an ensemble of seasoned, respected musicians who
play hot music from the early decades of America's most important
original art form ... jazz.
These
men have spent years listening to, studying, and playing hot jazz.
Couple this with their popular early New Orleans instrumentation, and
you get an authentic sounding group, despite having found its own very
identifiable voice. Never heavy-handed with the music, this group
puts forth a wonderfully musical, light, and energetic sound which
will make you want to move to their music.
Founded in 1985, the Quintet has played 50 or more Monday nights a year
as the house band at the New Orleans Creole Restaurant in Seattle's
Pioneer Square. Twenty one years with infrequent personnel changes
has allowed them to develop not only a large repertoire of New
Orleans jazz, blues, and swing tunes but a unique chemistry and spirit
with which to perform that repertoire. They put out some great music,
they have a good time doing it, and they'll have you involved, too.
Guaranteed.
In
addition to two CD's and their ongoing Mondays at the
restaurant, The New Orleans Quintet has been heard all over the Pacific
Northwest at festivals, celebrations, concerts, jazz societies, weddings
and even funerals. Its continuous 21 year run at the New Orleans
Restaurant would certainly rank right up there as one of Seattle's
longest running steady gigs.
